Android App Development
Android apps for customers, staff and field teams — fast, reliable and built for the range of Android devices your users carry, connected to the business systems you already run.
Android App Development: the overview
Android is the most widely used mobile platform in many markets, across a wide range of devices and price points. Reaching those users well means an app that is fast, works on modest hardware, handles patchy connectivity, and feels native — not a stretched website. We build Android apps that do that, whether for your customers or your own teams.
We build around your goal — bookings, ordering, tracking, support, or field operations — and connect the app to your existing systems so it works with current data. Depending on your needs we build native in Kotlin or cross-platform to also cover iOS from one codebase, and we test across an agreed matrix of real devices, not just an emulator.
The result is a polished Android app, delivered in sprints you review through Google Play test tracks and published from your own Play Console account. The source code transfers to you on full payment, so the app is a lasting asset you can extend, not a rental.
What Android App Development includes
Native or Cross-Platform
Kotlin native, or React Native/Flutter to cover Android and iOS from one codebase.
Business System Integration
Connected to your ERP, CRM, ordering or operations systems through their APIs; see systems and API integration.
Offline & Sync
Works on patchy connections and syncs when back online, with agreed rules for conflicting edits.
Device & Hardware Support
Camera, GPS, notifications, scanners and payments across the agreed device list.
QA Across Devices
Testing on a real range of Android devices and OS versions, not just an emulator.
Play Store Submission
Store listing, data safety form, submission and release management in your Play Console account.
Who Android App Development is built for
Customer-facing brands
Reach Android users with an app they will actually keep.
Field & operations teams
Equip staff and drivers with an app that works on the Android devices they carry.
Businesses with existing systems
A mobile front end connected to your ERP, CRM or operations.
Startups needing reach
Native Android, or one codebase covering Android and iOS to move faster.
Is Android app development the right choice?
A good fit when
- Most of your customers or staff use Android phones, or you issue Android devices to field teams.
- The app needs device features such as the camera, barcode scanning, GPS or offline storage.
- Rugged or managed company devices, such as Android scanners, are part of the workflow.
- The app must connect to your own backend or business systems, not just display content.
Consider another option when
- You need iOS with the same features too; cross-platform development usually means one codebase instead of two.
- Users only need occasional access to information; a responsive web app or customer portal can be enough and avoids store review.
- The backend or API the app depends on does not exist yet. Plan that first, or include it in the scope.
Usually in a first release
- Core journeys for one or two roles, designed and tested on a device list agreed with you
- Login, connection to your backend or API, and push notifications
- Offline handling for the screens that need it
- Internal and closed testing tracks in Google Play for your team before public release
- Submission from your own store accounts. Apple and Google review every release; review time varies and approval is not guaranteed, so launch plans allow time for a resubmission
Outside the first release unless agreed
- An iOS version, unless the app is built cross-platform and iOS is in scope
- Building or changing the backend systems the app connects to, unless listed in scope
- Support for Android versions or device models older than the agreed minimum
- Tablet-specific layouts, wearables, in-app purchases or subscriptions unless agreed
Anything outside the approved scope is reviewed and agreed before work begins. See how we work.
Data, controls, responsibilities and ownership
Data migration and integrations
- A connected app depends on an API from your backend, ERP or CRM. We confirm early whether it exists, what it exposes and who maintains it; if it needs building or changing, that is scoped separately.
- Push notifications use Firebase Cloud Messaging, set up in a Firebase project owned by your organization.
- Offline data is stored encrypted on the device and synced when a connection returns, with rules agreed for edits that conflict.
- Company-owned devices can be managed through your mobile device management (MDM) tool and managed Google Play, which your IT team controls.
Roles, approvals and audit
- Roles and login
- Customers, staff and admins see different screens and data, with login through your existing identity provider where needed.
- Device security
- Sensitive data encrypted on the device, sessions that expire, and remote sign-out when a device is lost.
- Release control
- Staged rollouts in Google Play, so a release reaches a small share of users first and can be halted.
- Server-side audit
- Actions that change records are logged on the server with user, device and timestamp.
What we need from your team
- Create a Google Play Console account in your organization’s name and invite us. Organization accounts need identity verification and usually a D-U-N-S number, which can take time to obtain.
- Provide access to the backend or APIs the app uses, and a test environment with realistic data.
- Name a product owner who tests builds on real devices and approves releases.
- Supply the privacy policy, support contact and store listing text, and approve screenshots.
- Share the devices and Android versions your users actually have, if known.
Ownership, support and running costs
- Project source code, designs and documentation transfer to you on full payment, and your data is yours throughout; see our IP and ownership policy.
- The Google Play Console account and Firebase project are in your organization’s name. Play App Signing keeps the app signing key in your Play account, and the upload key stays in your custody.
- Running costs by category: Apple and Google developer account fees, push notification and messaging services (SMS, email), backend hosting and database, crash reporting and monitoring, and maintenance for yearly iOS and Android releases and store policy changes. Amounts depend on your usage and providers.
- Apple and Google raise their SDK and policy requirements regularly, and apps that fall behind can be blocked from publishing updates or shown to fewer users; a maintenance and support agreement covers this.

How we deliver Android App Development
Custom software built around the way your business works. Five steps, with a free pilot of 2 to 3 key modules before the full build.
Step 1: Understand
We learn how your business works.
Your requirements, workflow, challenges and goals, understood before anything is recommended.
Step 2: Plan
We design the right solution around your workflow.
Modules, workflows, roles, approvals, reports and integrations, agreed before development.
Step 3: Select Technology
Choose the right technical foundation.
Technology options matched to your users, security, budget and growth, not one fixed stack.

Full development, testing, deployment, training and support, built to grow with you.
Android App Development FAQ
Both are options. Native Kotlin suits apps that push device performance and platform-specific features; cross-platform (React Native or Flutter) is efficient when you want Android and iOS from one codebase. We recommend the right fit in the Select Technology step and explain the trade-off.
Usually, yes. We integrate the app with your ERP, CRM, ordering or operations systems through their APIs so it works with current data rather than a separate copy. If a system has no suitable API, that is identified early and the integration work is scoped separately.
Yes. We test across an agreed list of real Android devices and OS versions, because Android fragmentation means an app that works on one device can fail on another.
Yes. We prepare the store listing, data safety form and release, and publish from your Google Play Console account, where we work as invited team members. Google reviews each release; review time varies and approval is not guaranteed, so launch dates allow for it.
You do. The Google Play Console account and Firebase project are set up in your organization’s name and we work in them as invited team members. Google holds the app signing key through Play App Signing in your account, and the upload key stays with you, so the app, its listing and its update rights stay with your organization if you ever change vendor.
Project source code, designs and documentation transfer to you on full payment, and your data is yours from day one. The app is published from developer accounts in your organization’s name, so you can extend it, change vendors or bring it in-house. Open-source components stay under their own licences, as our IP and ownership policy sets out.
